In
1999, in response to the number of people who were blinded by the
terrorist attack on the US Embassy in Nairobi, the Canadian government
agency IDRC together with the Darton College in the UK and the Kenya
Society for the Blind (KSB), set up the Center for Adaptive Technology
(CAT) at the KSB offices in Nairobi. CAT is the only specially set
up training facility for the blind in the region and offers training
in common office productivity applications. However, with the need
for training opportunities expanding to schools and other tertiary
institutions, there is now a need for training of trainers courses
for adaptive technologies in the region. It is this training, together
with supplimenting training offered by CAT that ITAC is providing.
With staff trained by the manufacturers of the products and constant
updating of our skills, we have the neccessary skills to offer the
most advanced training in the region.
